If you’re looking to delve deeper into the magical universe and express your passion, exploring creative ways to capture the essence of the series might inspire you. Moana has a lot of easter eggs, referencing The Little Mermaid and Frozen. Aladdin also gets a subtle shoutout as Maui stands on top of a pile of treasure. It’s hard to spot amid all the glittering gold, but there’s no mistaking that iconic lamp.

People found the little robot in the scene where the Enterprise arrives off the planet Vulcan in the middle of a debris field. The debris are the remains of Federation ships destroyed by the Romulan ship Narada. Just after the ship does a barrel roll, you can see R2-D2 on the bridge view screen, floating among the debris. The shadow of an X appeared on the hospital room wall just before Camonte killed a patient there. Flashlights cross each other as the focus comes to rest on a corpse (pictured above). In one memorable scene, seven thugs are lined up against a wall and—in the style of the St. Valentine’s Day massacre from just three years earlier—brutally murdered.

Easter Eggs You Missed

The woman who sings the line about her fish is one such character. While it isn’t mentioned in the movie, Bush revealed that this character’s name is Senora Pezmuerto. The magic contained inside The Madrigal household is difficult to quantify. From the outside, the family’s house, known endearingly as Casita, seems modest enough. Once inside, however, the square footage appears to shoot off into a mystical realm where the rules of physics no longer exist.

Dustin’s “NeverEnding Story” Duet Has Layers

This is put on full display during Antonio’s gifting ceremony, where his magical abilities are revealed and his new living quarters are unveiled. The glowing, golden bedroom door opens up into expansive jungle complete with its own existing ecosystem, which is immediately filled with animals from the surrounding area. It takes some focus just to keep up with all the nifty moves Casita is pulling in the background. A keen eye will spot some minutiae in the foreground though, particularly in the wardrobe department. Each family member’s clothing choice references their unique ability.

It’s a worthy inclusion to Luisa’s song, showing an impressive amount of depth in the songwriting and letting us know it wasn’t just a matter of rhythmic convenience. Mirabel’s mother, Julieta (who has the ability to cook food that literally heals wounds), wears an outfit with a mortar and pestle on the front, as well images of a heart surrounded by herbs and spices. Luisa’s dress references her super strength with images of dumbbells along the bottom. Camilo has the pattern of a lizard on his clothes, a nod to the chameleon and his shapeshifting abilities. Dolores’ dress has sound waves across it, in reference to her superhuman hearing.

Pepa’s dress is covered in rain drops and heavily references sunshine, obviously meant to represent her ability to control the weather. Bruno has an hourglass on his poncho, to represent his power to see the future. Abuela’s dress features the mountains where they reside and Antonio’s vest is covered in animals. Well, her dress actually contains images that reference every ability in the entire family. More than just a visual easter egg, the burning of the red Handmaid’s cloak is a seminal moment with deep roots that nod to the beginning of the show. The burning mirrors June’s earlier acts of rebellion, most notably, the burning of her own cloak in season two, and it serves as a bookend to the series’ iconography.

Serena’s Oppenheimer Quote Is A Sly Reference

As viewers see in the movie, Elio roams around an air and space museum where he learns about NASA’s Voyager and other galaxies in a narrated description. Just like the Pizza Planet Truck, the number “A113” is shown in nearly every single Pixar movie. Two of Elio’s directors, Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian, confirmed to ScreenRant that the movie also includes the numerical phrase. “There might also be a Luxo lamp outline in the stars. I think somebody tried to fit those in,” animation supervisor Travis Hathaway told Gold Derby.

By now, many Pixar fans are aware of the famous Pizza Planet Truck that is in nearly every Pixar movie. The truck, which is a rusty yellow 1978 Gyoza Mark VII Lite Hauler pickup truck, made its debut in Toy Story in 1995. In addition to Kibreab and Edgerly, the animated film also stars the voices of Zoe Saldaña, Brad Garrett, Brandon Moon and Jameela Jamil. When Genie cracks open his book of Royal Recipes, he finds one for king crab. Who else should pop out of the book than THE king crab himself, Sebastian from The Little Mermaid.

As such, his room hasn’t been tidied up when Mirabel first steps in. This leaves a lot to be taken in, from the rat filled mini-theater to the haggard toothbrush serving as a rodent back scratcher. Squid Game, Netflix’s biggest show of all time, has returned for its third and final season with deadlier games than ever. Director Jared Bush explained that before a film gets animated, “scratch dialogue” is recorded — often by the filmmakers themselves — just so there are voices to hear. Before final casting occurred, Sarah-Nicole was used as Mirabel and recorded “scratch dialogue” for years. Steve Howey‘s guest spot on Happy’s Place featured some nods to his days playing Van on Reba.

Plus, Steve and Robin’s chaotic, candy-fueled bonding moment in the bathroom is basically the teen version of Doc and Marty after one too many time jumps. Not only is this a literal shout-out to the summer blockbuster of that year, but the movie’s themes of alternate timelines, secret labs, and wild science experiments mirror what’s happening in Hawkins. Was a huge influence on Stranger Things, and Eleven, like the alien, is an outsider trying to understand human emotion, hiding from the authorities, and forming bonds with kids. Another classic Easter egg in the Pixar universe is the Luxo ball, a yellow ball with a blue stripe in the middle and a red star on the front. “Our lighting [director] has a Zoom screen with this striped blue shirt, and we put that shirt on Elio,” visual effects supervisor Claudia Chung told Gold Derby. In addition to physical Easter eggs, the Elio creators also took inspiration from the beloved 2017 film Coco.

In every scene where someone movie guide met their demise, an X was prominently displayed somewhere in the background. Here’s another Easter egg that can only be found by patiently sitting through the credits. Filmmakers have been inserting Easter eggs into films for a long time, but the term is said to have originated during the filming of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It saved them from impending doom and helped The Madrigals create a thriving village around Casita. Creators were sure to hint at this throughout the story told in “Encanto.” A subtle detail included by animators has to do with the familiar face of Isabela’s suitor, Mariano. Camilo’s good nature is on full display during the town gathering for Antonio’s gifting ceremony. The shapeshifter’s duty lies in greeting villagers as they enter Casita. It’s a fantastic display of psychological prowess because with the passing of each new guest, he morphs into the very person he is greeting.

It’s a treasure trove of hidden references, subtle callbacks, and blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter eggs that reward the most eagle-eyed fans. “Easter eggs” are jokes and messages intentionally hidden within a work of art. They are direct communications between the artist and their fans, and they can be found in video games, songs, computer programs, books, music videos, and especially movies. Life with Dolores’ ability would be a nightmare had The Madrigals settled in a metropolis. Next time you watch through “Encanto,” watch closely how poor Dolores is going about her life in various scenes. When there is any cause for clapping, she chooses to clap gently with her index fingers as opposed to the palms of her hands.
